The popularity of the 76-86 has grown immensely over the last 5 years as folks that had on of these when they were younger or wanted one are searching for quality examples. Additionally, the marketing department at AMC Jeep created so many great color and package combinations from 76' - 86' that new enthusiasts are realizing how great these classics are. This particular 1981 Jeep CJ7 Laredo is one of Jeep's best packages. Blending the V8 304 power of the 76-80 CJ's with the Laredo packaging created a 1 of 300 limited run in 1981. The story goes Jeep had a very limited amount of AMC 304 V8 engines left in 1981 and allowed dealers to special order 81 Jeeps with a V8 early in the year. Add in that this vehicle is rust free, Laredo packaging and V8 makes it likely one of only a few dozen produced.
In 1971, American Motors Coporation (AMC) begin offering the 304 engine in early Jeep CJ5s (CJ7s had this option beginning in 1976, which was the first year of CJ7 production) and continued this offering up until 1981, which was the last year American Motors Corporation (AMC) offered the 304 as an engine option. CJ5s and CJ7s equipped with the factory AMC 304 motor are often referred to as "H-code Jeeps." This term refers to the letter "H" in the VIN (4th letter of the VIN number denotes factory engine type). With 1981 being the last year of the H-code offering, finding one like this example is very few and far between. AMC historians believe there were approximately 200-300 factory H-code 1981 Jeep CJs (optioned for the CJ5 and CJ7, but never the CJ8 Scrambler), with just a fraction still surviving to this day. The 304 motor provides abundant power to the T176 4-speed manual shift transmission and dual-range Dana 300 transfer case. Aside from its appealing aesthetics, the Seller claims this vehicle runs excellent with speeds of 70 mph easily obtainable without issue. - Howell Throttle Body Injection (TBI) Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) - Factory Laredo trim package (included a chrome grill overlay, instrument cluster overlay, rocker panels, leather-wrapped steering wheel and grab bar, and vinyl purse stripe high-back seats) - New nutmeg carpet kit - Refurbished leather seats with OEM style purse stripes - Period correct AM/FM/cassette radio - (5) New BF Goodrich All-terrain KO2 tires 32x11.5R15 - Reseal and repaint of engine - New nutmeg soft top - Professional exterior restoration performed by Austin Jeeps

The current owner purchased this vehicle in 2023 from Connecticut, where it only resided for approximately 2 years. Previous owner in Connecticut rarely drove the Jeep and it was stored in a heated garage. Previous ownership per the CarFax (attached) states this is a southern Jeep from Georgia, where we believe it was sold new in 1985.
